Premium Protection FAQs

Q. What is Premium Protection?
A. A basic account will give you a lifetime registration on the database, allow you to mark you pet deceased, transfer your pet to a new keeper and report it missing to Microchip Central only. Note: if your pet is not already registered on Microchip Central, you may need to upgrade to premium to add the pet.

Premium Protection includes the following features:

  • Update yours and your pets' details for life.
  • Add multiple pets to a single account.
  • Report a pet missing - alerts go out to everyone in our Pet Watch community within a 5-mile radius of where it was reported missing.
  • Download a missing pet poster.
  • Receive text and email alerts should the microchip be searched. In addition, and where possible, we geo-locate where the microchip was searched on a map.
  • Gain access to VetLine - a telephone service offering unlimited veterinary advice 24/7.
  • Use the 'Holiday Cover' feature to set a temporary keeper while on holiday.
  • Claim a FREE DogTrac ID tag and replacement tags should you lose or break them.
  • Upload a short video of your pet to aid the reunification process if your pet is lost.

A. Premium Protection costs £15.00 + VAT for 12 months cover or £29.00 + VAT for the lifetime of your pets. Note: Premium Protection is per account, not per pet.

Q. How can I upgrade to Lifetime Premium Protection?
A. To upgrade your Premium Protection, sign in to your account and click the Premium Protection box below your profile. You can then select the Annual or Lifetime Premium Protection option. Note: Premium Protection is per account and not per pet.

Q. What is the 24/7 VetLine service?
A. 24/7 VetLine is a telephone service offering unlimited access to veterinary advice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Members with Premium Protection have unlimited access and can call as often as they need to. 24/7 VetLine provides a triage service with the caller being advised as to what they can do to help their pet and whether a visit to the vet is necessary and if so, how quickly.

After the consultation, almost 50% of cases don't need to see a vet at all, saving you time and money. Nearly 70% of out of hours callers do not need to see a vet urgently, but if you do, 24/7 VetLine can direct you to the nearest out of hours surgery. 24/7 VetLine is part of the largest vet advice service in the UK.

Q. How do I set a temporary keeper if I am going on holiday?
A. If you are leaving your pet in somebody else's care, you may want to add their details to your pet's microchip registration. If your pet's microchip is searched during the dates you schedule, both yours and the temporary keeper's details will be on file. To do this, sign in to your account and click 'Holiday Cover'. Add the temporary keeper's details, then click 'Schedule Holiday Cover' to schedule the keeper, dates and pets.
