Found a Pet

If you find a pet and it has a collar and tag with owner information, please contact them directly.

If you find a pet with a Dogtrac tag you can either:

1. Use the Dogtrac app or a QR scanner, downloadable on any smartphone, to scan the tag and identify the owner. You can also tap the tag using any NFC enabled mobile.

What is NFC

Near field communication (NFC) is the set of protocols that enable electronic devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching the devices together, or bringing them into proximity to a distance of typically 10cm or less.

Many applications we use daily – such as credit cards, car keys, tickets, health cards and hotel room access cards – could cease to exist as NFC-enabled mobile phones can provide all these functionalities. At the same time, a wide range of applications in health, education, and entertainment will be generated using smart posters - the most common usage area of NFC technology.

2. Alternatively, you can enter the 7-digit code on the tag here to identify the owner:

Microchip Lookup

How to Identify the Pet Microchip

If the pet is not wearing a collar or tag, you can try to identify a microchip. If you have a scanner and locate the chip, please enter it in the box above. If you don’t have a scanner, or don’t know if the pet is microchipped, you can find one of our local Scan Angels who will be able to scan the pet. If they locate a microchip, they can check which database it is registered to and initiate the process of reuniting the pet with its owner.

You can also take the pet to the nearest veterinary practice to have the microchip scanned, or call to see if a pet has been reported missing.

If the microchip is registered with Microchip Central and the owner has consented to their contact details being shared, you will be able to contact them directly. If not, you will need to call our 247 help line on 01223 772020 and tell us the microchip number so we can try to contact the owner.
