Check a Microchip

Check a DogTrac ID Tag or Key Tag

What to do:

If the pet has a collar tag with owner information, please contact them directly.

If there is no collar tag, but you have access to a scanner and locate a microchip, please enter the number in the lookup tool above, to find out which database it is registered to.

If the microchip is registered with Microchip Central and the owner has consented to their contact details being shared, you will be able to contact them directly. If not, you will need to call our 247 help line on 01223 622658 and tell us the microchip number so we can try to contact the owner. Note this number is strictly for lost and found pets.

Please adhere to these additional guidelines

Locate the microchip

If you do not know if the pet is microchipped, check here to find your local ScanAngel.

They will scan the pet and, if they locate a microchip, they can check which database it is registered to and initiate the process of reuniting the animal with its owner.

You can also take the pet to the nearest veterinary practice to have the microchip scanned, or call to see if a pet has been reported missing.

Stray Dog Law

The law states that lost dogs must be reported to the local authority if the owners cannot be contacted. You only need do this if you cannot contact the owner. ScanAngels will help you contact the owner. If the dog is not chipped or the owner cannot be contacted the local authority must be contacted.
